About Running Pace Calculator
Whether you are training for your first 5K or qualifying for the Boston Marathon, understanding Pace is critical. Pace is the inverse of speed; instead of "Miles Per Hour", runners speak in "Minutes Per Mile" or "Minutes Per Kilometer". The Running Pace Calculator helps you plan your race strategy and training splits.
Why Pace Matters
Starting too fast is the rookie mistake. If your goal is a 4-hour marathon, you cannot run the first 10 miles at an 8:00 pace and expect to survive. You need to lock in a 9:09 min/mile pace from the gun.
Common Benchmarks
- Sub-20 5K: Requires a 6:26 min/mile pace.
- Sub-40 10K: Requires a 6:26 min/mile pace.
- Sub-2 Hour Half Marathon: Requires a 9:09 min/mile pace.
- Sub-3 Hour Marathon: The holy grail. Requires 6:52 min/mile.
