About Sunburn Time Calculator
Sun protection is vital for travelers. The SPF (Sun Protection Factor) number indicates how much longer you can stay in the sun compared to unprotected skin.
The Math
Minutes to Burn = (Base Burn Time) × SPF
Example: If you normally burn in 10 minutes, SPF 30 theoretically protects you for 300 minutes (5 hours). However, sweat and swimming reduce this drastically.
Skin Types (Fitzpatrick Scale)
- Type I: Pale white; burns always (Base: 10 mins).
- Type III: Cream white; burns moderately (Base: 20-30 mins).
- Type VI: Deep brown; burns rarely (Base: 60+ mins).
